Bangkok Trip 14 to 17 Sept 2013

I must say this time round I was fairly disappointed with this trip, but not to the extent of not enjoying a holiday trip overseas. Lets start the trip with a good note first. As I have probably mentioned, I am flying alone to Bangkok first time. I must say this experience is superb seriously. I don't know about how others will feel but to me, AWESOME. I went in the departure hall and stroll around the airport with my earpiece on, looking at families and couples with happy faces. But I don't feel as if I am a loner so pathetic to travel alone, instead I felt so cool. Laugh at me all you want , I don't care. And of course I board the plane taking the window seat. Jetstar wasn't full packed for my flight and I could see few young couples sitting at the next few rows opposite. I feel so proud for god no reason when they looked at me with some alien expression ( like it is so weird for me to travel alone and so pathetic look). And so I laned in BKK after that usual uncomfy flight because of the seats that were as straight as a wooden plank as always. Alone and happily felt ever brave and cool, I took the Rail train with my luggage and alight at the nearest station near my hotel. The first night I stayed at Baiyoke Hotel, so it was actually easy for me as it is the ever most popular hotel that nobody will not know. So if I were to lost my way, I could ask for direction without them giving me those question marks. There were road direction to the hotel but was missing halfway along the road and I thought of my smart way to find the hotel. I looked for the tallest building in the sky! Yes, Baiyoke sky hotel is one of the tallest building around the area. AND TADAH I reach BKK and my hotel safely alone! *claps claps*  My cousin and aunt went out as they reached BKK earlier than me so I was left alone in the hotel and famished. I wanted to go out and buy dinner but was afraid they come back and couldnt find me so I waited. Lucky they came back just in a moment after but were out again to watch the cabaret show which I rejected. So I went out to walk on my own and bought the ever first food and one of my fav street food - Banana prata from this Indian man. ( video can be found in my instagram account- peilingg26). Walked to Platinum mall and to realise it was closed - they close at 730pm, so sad! So I head back to hotel with rather empty stomach because I was tired. Anyway this is Baiyoke Sky hotel with three beds. Rather big hotel but thats about it, Nothing too fanciful or great. Plus if you are BKK, you rather stay in a boutique hotel with a cheaper rate and spend more on shopping than to stay in this overrated hotel, imo.
up at 64th floor

The next day we woke up super early for breakfast at floor 81. Normal international buffet I would say. My cousin love this kind of buffet thats why we decide to stay there for the first day. After which we check out and head to Citin Pratunum hotel, the next two days of our stay. This hotel was pretty not bad, considering that they have got a tuktuk service for free but only to the only nearest bts station, which is not bad already. Its not time for check-in so we left our luggage at the lobby and head to Chatuchak Market via BTS. I should say take BTS more instead of tuktuk or cab. You really save more.

Obviously I won't have much photos for Chatuchak ( even thou I did not buy anything from there! saddening). It was the famous ever Market that sells cheap stuff not just clothing but a wide range from glass, flowers, wood and food. I would advice people to grab a map or check where is the exact location that sells clothing, you know shopping for girls. Because we freaking walk for don't know how many hours in there, through the alley and section but never to the clothing section, THAT IS WHY I did not buy anything. All exhausted and sweaty after the walking and we left the place. I was so demoralized. And seeing I did not buy anything, my aunt and cousin were shocked too because they were all crazily buying like nobody business. LOL. So we head back to the hotel totally dead- we lost our way after alighted BTS station ( I know the way actually... but my aunt and cousin insisted). Still we head to Platinum mall for shopping because I bought an empty luggage to BKK so I need to at least get some clothes for next day. I did but not much thou. And we ended day two - probably the best thing that happened on day two was the dinner we had at Platinum mall food court. Always love the Phad Thai there! Woke up super early the next day for morning market because from experience they do have some cheap and good stuff. However, after two days of morning market on day three and last, I realised unless you buy in bulk purchase which is at least 3 and above, it wasnt really a great deal unless you super love that piece. That might be the problem with me not buying many because I don't really fancy many of them. Then we continued at Pratunam market which again is a good deal if you buy in bulk i.e one piece for 200 bath, 3 pieces for 100 baht each. OF COURSE, 300 baht is like SGD 10 odds so why think so much?! JUST BUY. Im sorry, but something went wrong with my head that I didnt do all these impulsive buying. Somehow I regretted thou because actually some basic tops can be bought in bulk in different colors. Doesnt really mean wasted. oh wells... Then we head to Platinum mall but the zones that sell shoes and bags instead. And there I bought my shoes there, 3 pairs. Probably my best buy in BKK and favourite. In the afternoon we head to Siam for Naraya and MBK but left empty handed. Seriously, I have walked my whole life there ( okay I know I oversaid it, I did not but it seemed like) Practically walked almost 3km back from MBK to hotel which is near Baiyoke Sky. AND we walked there to, not to mention. I was freaking hungry by then not to say T-I-R-E-D.  Head back hotel early because nobody has the strength to shop more. Plus it was the day before we had to leave for home so needed some time for bag packing. Woke up on the last day early for morning market, this time really early at 630am or so because my flight is at 1140am and I had to leave at 830am. Anyway if you do stay around Baiyoke sky area, do take note of this road stall that sells porridge in the morning, damn awesome seriously! We had that for two days for breakfast. And off I go to the airport after some last minute shopping. So you see, I DID NOT buy much and was super sad for it. Initally, I was contemplating on whether to extend my stay but with many consideration like I will be alone in BKK, gym has no one to manage, and my family will kill me to agree on staying in BKK alone. BUT it was just $50 for me to extend my flight. sighs. The best thing of the trip - food as always.

These two were taken in this restaurant called Fuji Japanese restaurant, at one corner of the food court in Platinum mall. I would strongly encourage and recommend this restaurant because it is so darn cheap and the food is superb. I treat them for this meal and the total bill was only 780 Baht which is SGD30 odds! Where can you find a restaurant in SG that you can order salmon, teriyaki chicken, beef set and cost SGD 30?! no way man. Plus they got a few side dish to come with and fruits plus tea.

The Tom Yam Goong from Platinum mall food court. YUMS

My ever favourite Phad thai from the food court as well. I remembered the last time I came BKK, I ate this dish twice and still find it awesome. This is how much I love it!

Home Sweet Home. Till then!
