14 Days Korea Trip guide | Preparation
Has it been end of 2017 soon? Time flies really and I have neglected this blog for many months, very much guilty. So here I am hoping to share this korea trip before the year ends. This trip first started when my cousin and sister said we should go on a trip this year together and were like discussing to go for autumn season. That was in April when we decided to go Korea after trying to fix the dates so that we could catch the peak autumn period. But my awesome cousin decide to pangseh us because she won some air ticket to guangzhou and have to fly by this year. Great so now it's back to me and my usual travel buddy again. LOL. So there we go, starting to plan for our first korea trip.
Air Ticket
Our helpful tool - Skyscanner. Of course we dont purchase from Skyscanner because we always feel it is safer to buy direct from the airline. You never know when you need to contact the airline for your flights or changes, plus it is much more easier to contact than some travel agent. We also occasionally look out for any promo and discount. I suggest to keep your dates flexible +/- 1 or 2 days because it may save you abit if you can shift your dates alittle. We monitor our tickets for a good 1 month or so before we decided we should just get it before it increase again. We actually shortlisted Korean Air and China Eastern for the ticket. But eventually we chose China Eastern because of these reasons:
1. China Eastern baggage limit - 2pcs per person, each pcs 23kg. That is a good almost 100kg for both of us. Tell me how will we ever go over this limit unless we are really some crazy shopaholics. Korean Air only allow 1 pcs of 23kg and we couldnt really find a way to buy add-ons (please let me know if anybody ever purchase more)
2. Korean Air timing is not that bad actually compared to China Eastern because CE has a 1 stopover at Shanghai. But the pricing wise, we really save quite abit. I remember Korean Air is SGD700plus per person.
3. Our flight route goes like this : SIN - SEOUL via CE. BUSAN - JEJU via Korean Air. JEJU - SIN via CE. See that? most ppl will have to go back to Seoul for their return flight but we found this at a cheaper price so why not? The domestic flight is a pure luck for us because we just happen to get their super deal from busan to Jeju. Read below for the itinerary planning for this flight route.
So total damage per person: Return flights = SGD 613, domestic flight = SGD 45
Itinerary
As it was the first time we visit Korea, we wanted to make use of this trip to visit the common cities first, Seoul/Busan/Jeju. Went to research on all the places to visit and things that we wanted to see or do or eat and compile them together so that we get a hang of the daily itinerary. Once a rough itinerary was listed, we planned on how many days should we stay in each city. Of course, the first and foremost my sister went to read on the autumn peak period on each city to determine the route. As Seoul starts Autumn earlier, we didnt want to miss the very beautiful autumn so we decided to start with Seoul for 7 nights and 3 nights each in Busan and Jeju. But to be honest and deep down somewhere I would have thought it would be better if we start from Jeju because even though I am glad that we started from Seoul because the weather would not be that worst off as compared if Seoul was our last destination but the amount of loots we need to carry over to Jeju wasn't that easy. And I think it was quite common sense to start with scenic trip follow by shopping trip. So for our city arrangement, you may want to consider doing the opposite route as ours. Once we settled on the days, we planned the travel route for each city so that we won't have to travel back and fro. This saved some travel expenses and time as well. My sister will note down the directions for each places so that it would be easier during our travel. Let me know if any of you wants our detailed itinerary, I can share via email :) peiling.tan26@gmail.com. Of course, we also research on any tourists promotion to cut us some discounts for the attractions/ places we planned to visit. Website like Klook / Kkday gives discounts and vouchers for tourists so check that out when you are planning. Follow on for each day travel guide for more details on our itinerary!

Accommodation
All my travel trips with my sister are usually on budget and reasonable spending. Our main concern for lodging is cleanliness and convenience. We usually dont book hotels for our travel because of the cost and the fact that we know that most of the time we will be out and all we needed was a clean bed and toilet to wash up. As we are staying in Seoul for 7 nights, hotel will definitely not be cost friendly, thus we decided on Airbnb. As my sister drew out the station location for each place that we are going to visit on the train map, we know where should we concentrate on finding the lodging, or at least some where in between to minimise the travel. I believe many will say to stay near Seoul Station for ease convenience which is pretty true. Of course, it will comes with the price as well. We managed to find one that is somewhere near to Seoul Station at a cheap price. At busan, we also stayed in a Airbnb but i feel that this location that we chose wasnt that ideal and we ended travelling quite alot. For Jeju, we realised that Airbnb is almost the same price as staying in a boutique hotel that we found, so we ended up with the boutique hotel instead so we could at least enjoy the last part of Korea better.
Damage per person : Seoul = SGD182 , Busan = SGD52 , Jeju = SGD112
Data/ Car Rental
Lets talk about Car rental. If you have done some research, you would have seen alot of travellers comment that ideal travel mode in Jeju is by car practically because it is an island and it would be easier to have a car to drive around especially for tourists on free and easy. I don't have a license so I solely depend on my sister for the travel in Jeju. My sister found a car rental company - Sixt, I remembered my sister say there is a few to choose from but Sixt has some promotion or discount so she chose that. Remember driver will have to convert the license to international in order to drive in Korea. For your info, Korea is left hand drive and just heads up for Sixt (not sure about our car rental company thou), upon returning the car, you do not need to fill up full tank for them, just fill up to the same as what it was when they hand the car to you because the petrol in Korea isnt that cheap and we were silly to top it to full tank for them. ( Maybe you guys already know because this is the first time we rent a car overseas)
For Data, we decided to get the wifi egg instead because we basically dont need to do any calls and we have our roaming as well so we can actually retain our sg number in case of emergency. It is more cost saving for us as well because the rental of the wifi egg is cheaper than buying a SIM card after we did some calculation and comparison. In term of coverage I think the wifi egg lose out abit because you will have low or no network at certain locations or places e.g basement. Of course you have to bear the trouble of charging both the wifi egg and your phone because it actually run out of batt quite fast (we have been diligently switching off the wifi egg when we dont really use it but we do upload alot of photos and video when we connect to the wifi egg) So it actually depends on your preferences.
Damage per person : Wifi Egg = SGD 52 , Car rental = SGD 69
Total damage per person for flights + accommodation + Data + car rental = SGD1125 for 14 days of Korea trip. I would say this is consider pretty decent expense. Stay tune for the detailed korea trip guide!

Bangkok 13 to 15 January 2017
Im finally blogging again! It feels like very long but actually is only a month away since I last blogged. But but, definitely more than a month of changes happened. A year older, a year better and yup I guess I am right now. (let's not jinx it) Start of 2017, I made a step and decide to move out of my misery. It wasn't easy because I knew there were still very good mentors that I can learn from but who would actually give up a better environment, better welfare and probably better management who will appreciate you. I'm sorry I guessed that's it. So after i decided on 6 January, I went on a crazy idea - book a short getaway before i actually embark on my new journey. But as you know, Jan is a rather short month considering that CNY came early on the last week of Jan, I was very shortchanged to plan for a short getaway. Chi had plan way ahead to bangkok and did invite me but I couldn't take leave at that time. Now that I had quite a few days of leave to clear, I decided why not? YOLO just buy a ticket to BKK! And this is an experience to have ; book an air ticket so last minute and don't expect it to be cheap. LOL. More exciting, my cousin is flying on the 11 Jan night and I intend to fly on the next day not to join her but to roam around myself because she is going to some city. So that left me with 5 days to get my air ticket and get ready with everything. Actually to think of it, BKK has nth to prepare for except an empty luggage!~ As I was booking my air ticket, I REALISED MY PASSPORT IS EXPIRING WITHIN 6 MONTHS. So much so for YOLO, thing happen. I was desperate to go bkk because that was really my only last travel before my next one probably only next year. Plus Plus, my once in blue moon impulse of buying such expensive air ticket at S$274 to BKK. Seriously overpriced. But who cares! Quickly send in online application for passport renewal and wishfully hope that it will be ready before 12 Jan. Such positive thinking hor. HAHA. And of course I dare not book my air ticket first because in case I couldn't get my passport in time, I have to waste $274. Im not that crazy to waste such money. So on 10 January, I managed to confirm my passport is ready for collection and I quickly book the air ticket. WAHAHA. And the collection of my passport is on 12 Jan. YOLO YOLO.
So here I am, to BKKon a 7am flight! No check-in luggage so I was super early. I have all my time to reach hotel before I can meet up with my cousin and I didn't really wan spend the money on taxi so I happily hop on the train and take my journey to the hotel that my cousin booked. I wanted to stay near pratunam because I really like the place, so convenient with all the night market and the shopping. But my cousin say to stay with her safer so I agreed to that. But Im sorry to say but really no more next time for this hotel.
Here. Bangkok City Hotel. Located near a station, Rachathewi which if you know the area, it will be a little further down from platinum and more nearer to Siam. I couldn't upgrade to the family suite so we have to add an extra bed right in the middle of the two bed. Lucky it wasn't as crappy as I thought it would be. I actually want to go pratunam to do a little shopping because my cousin done so on her first day but i don't know exactly what time would she arrive so I head straight to Terminal 21 instead because thats where we planned to meet.
And I waited her for 2 hours rotting in Terminal 21, didnt want to stroll around because I didnt want to waste the time later to have to walk again with my cousin. Sat down for a hot chocolate and almost fell asp. -.-
Had Jap food for lunch and went shopping, I didnt really fancy the clothes there and I didnt buy ath but my cousin. LOL. shopping queen as she is. My cousin and friend had rent a car to drive them around so the meeting time was 5pm or so. but we got so tired of shopping around and went to have some snack before heading back to hotel to leave their luggage and head out. Nice salted egg croosiant we've got there! Headed to Artbox and chatuchak night market. I actually really like to atmosphere of Artbox, thou it is much lesser like a night market because there isn't much crowd, but maybe because it was a Friday then and not many shops were open. Very relaxing feel, with live band. Me like!!
my super artistic post. hahaha.
My cousin and friend went shopping crazy at jj market and bought so many clothes. -.- till their bad can't event fit. And so we headed back hotel to end the night. Next day, we went to the must go chatuchak. The first time I went, we didnt manage to find the clothing lanes and ended up wasted 3 hours, the second time I went was with the bf and didnt buy a lot as well coz we went very late. And with everybody raving about chatuchak and its cheap thrills, how could I not visit again. Did manage to buy something this time round, I think I make big improvement. Hahah. found a all day breakfast small shop and took a seat for some brunch.
Visit this shop if you are there! I think the platter is really not bad for a filling! Shop till evening and we were exhausted. Went back hotel to put all loots before heading out to JJ Green market I think, but I didnt really like the place, there was nth much for us to buy and we went back empty-handed and tired. Got to pack our luggage a little because it was already the last night at BKK. My cousin and I went separate with her friend because we didnt want to shop at siam or buy any branded back so we went to pratunam again in hoping I can buy more loots back because my cousin think Im crazy not to buy ath back. Of course we went to have the fav porridge for breakfast at the pratunam morning market. Got to head back after shopping awhile because we need to check-out soon and our luggage aint exactly packed. Need to also consider the space we needed for the snacks and dry food that we were going to buy. So we checkout and head to Big C with 2 carton box full of snacks and food. I was still thinking if it will overweight because I only bought 20kg and my cousin even increased her weight on the day itself but still have some of her loots with me. Almost time and my cousin had to leave for airport already, their flight was 9 so they had to leave around 6 to airport. Mine was almost 12 midnight so I actually have some time, so I went out to platinum to have the last shopping and massage near my hotel before I train to Airport. I was really very crazy to have book the latest flight and to arrive SG at almost 3am. Worst to speak, I didnt take leave for the Monday so I basically did not sleep and went to work straight after cleaning up. ZOMBIFIED TO THE MAX AT WORK. LOL
Promise myself the next time I go bkk, I need to really buy. HAHA
ciaos, till the next trip again~

2017
It has been a tough year and much a learning year for me. This year taught me real hard that the real world is not as good and as fair as it should at least be. When hard work doesnt pay off and when honesty is not what people want to hear, you realise that this world, a mask is mandatory. Bootlicking is not an option anymore. People only want to hear what they want to hear, you do what you are only asked to. Any thing more, dont expected it to be awarded and appreciated. My note 4 is dead and i haven got the chance to repair it to post my year photos. So based on my tiny brain, i remembered the training at bangkok with colleague; it was good, i meant really worth the trip because there was so much to learn from the experienced. The family hong kong trip which was once in a blue moon and the fact that we all grown up and expectations and lifestyle are all different. My niece grew way too fast that she can speak alot now. Many life questions popping in and out this year where i have no answers. Every year i wish for a better year and every year is a challenging one for me somehow. Maybe my self reflection is wrong. Maybe im still lost....
To the me in 2017, be stronger and better.
To the me in 2017, be stronger and better.

Hong Kong Trip
I think we have booked the air ticket for more than 6 months ago, probably in dec last year. Probably that is one of the reason how you can save on the trip expenses. We bought the SQ promo ticket at S$260 to Hong Kong. not bad a deal right? It's been so long since we family go on a trip. 14 year ago i guess? And i get to sit SQ again! you know it wasn't that easy to take SQ, given the fact that we always want a low budget trip ( we are poor… LOL). So after waiting for more than 6 months, we are off to Hong Kong on 29 Sept with early morning flight. :)
Airport OOTD with my fav cousin |
and my once-in-a-blue-moon-travel-with-us xiaomei. |
Did I mention this time we are bringing her to Hong Kong too?! so excited for her lor. |
Singapore Airlines, by far my favourite airline (thou the service wasn't as before…) |
We reached Hong Kong around 11 and did the first thing we always do; buy prepaid card. I didn't really want to buy which I will tell you why later, so i went to help the 8 of us except baby with the Octopus card (Singapore's ezlink card). I would encourage whoever travel to HK to buy this because it is really more convenient with the card than you always have to buy single trip ticket. Of course that is if you want to go on public transport rather than cabbing every time.
So our hotel we stayed in Hong Kong is called Dorsett Mongkok. Anyway, did i say it was the first time in Hong Kong for me? My sis asked me to plan everything but my planning wasn't that well planned because I actually didn't come up with any itinerary. Hey i was super busy ok with work. So this hotel was actually recommended by my colleague. They didn't really say it was super good because seriously they did emphasise to me that the rooms are super small but it was actually convenient and cheap. Dorsett Mongkok is in between Mongkok and Olympic Station. Nearer to Olympic station. We booked the rooms direct from the website because there was some promo. So a 5D4N stay total up to S$287 per person, which means to say per room per night is about $150? I believe there are definitely cheaper hotels or accommodation but because we are travelling with baby so we definitely couldn't really afford to stay too cheap. Let me know if you have any other cheaper options for my future visit to Hong Kong! The room is really quite small but their service is good and the hotel actually provide each room with a 3G unlimited data phone which you can bring out and free local calls. HOW GOOD IS THAT? SEE THE REASON WHY I DIDNT BUY PREPAID?! HAHA. I AM SMART OK. Because basically the entire trip, i on hotspot so that I can use my own phone to surf net and post live photo update. AND i use the hotel phone to call my sisters during the entire trip. Tell me how convenient and best thing about that!? Of course the phone with hotspot on the whole day can only last for a day or slightly lesser till the night and the batt will be dead. BUT GOOD ENOUGH!
SO this is the room, really small but is ok! me and my sis are actually quite easy going with the hotel as long as it is clean with bathroom. |
there there, the youngsters and little one |
simple beef noodle in a what Hong Kong called 茶餐厅 |
cute little keychains |
A Street POTD |
The second day we woke up to a cooling weather, lucky me for my last minute planning to Disneyland. The ticket is of course not cheap at almost a 100 bucks but how not to come disneyland when our niece is coming with us? :) Pictures to do the talking now~
A group photo! |
See my cutie pie! |
you just become a kid again when you are at disneyland |
everything is so cute and cartoon |
One of the not so kiddy ride, you won't find many rides suitable for us in Disneyland de |
yet another one again. This is not bad |
of course you need to take at least a photo with the mascot or disney character. Mickey Mouse is too popular with freaking long queue. no chance for that |
Then because we are in the Halloween month, they have got Halloween costume Parade instead. But it was rather a short one. |
In Disneyland, I think there are a few shows that is worth the watch. We watch the Lion King Musical and Mickey and the wondrous book. Really is worth the watch but it would be good and I suggest to go in as early for Mickey and Wondrous book because we were one of the last to go in and we sat really very corner and far away which wasn't that good view at all.
Olaf! |
and the ever famous Elsa. When the music drop off, everybody was like " woahhh" |
Then the long awaited firework |
dreamy and starry world |
Oh. Shan and me have to try this because everybody is hyped up about this so we bought and try. I couldn't drink others except for Milk Tea and I would say, not bad, not bad. |
Here our bulk purchase to bring back SG. Initially thought one person can only buy 4 boxes but nope! No such condition for us that day. But we still limit ourselves la. |
=D |
Then we are off to Mongkok area to do some shopping again, my aunt and cousin are crazy shoppers seriously. They can buy anything anywhere. Me on the other hand, none. Weird enough, I really didn't buy anything up till the 2nd last day. Just food, so I was hoping I could buy something. probably some clothes or shoes. But negative. damn it. And we wanted to go to Victoria Peak and take the tram but it was National Day for China. Crap shit, what a day to plan that because the queue to buy the tickets was UBER DISGUSTING and that doesn't include the queue to board the tram. WTF seriously, i didn't get the chance to ride the tram T.T We decided to abort the plan because it was too insane. Went to Temple Street hoping to get something but end up getting a lot of socks because it was really irresistible. Too cute! Even up till now Im regretting that I didn't get enough. Headed back to hotel because the non youngsters are tired. LOL
Street OOTD again |
playing with Snow |
Tadah! Dessert time. Quite like this even though I don't eat Macha. |
We need to spend at least 50HKD per person so we have no choice but to order at least 3 items amounting to 180HKD |
This is definitely a must. The above dessert was just for instagram worthy sake. of coz we did finish all 3 la. |
initially we thought this was it, as we saw the first shop that sells bean curd and it say gu zhao wei. LOL but nope not this. |
There there, the right bean curd. look for the word 山水豆花. There is two shops over there, i presume both are about the same |
The crystal cable car whereby you can see the scene under your foot |
still nice, still relaxing |
taken with my note 4 :) |
Last day of our Hong Kong trip, how can we not visit the Australian Dairy Company? We couldn't really do much on the last day too given that our flight is at 340pm. So we head over to the cafe at 9plus to see a long queue. But as you have already known, HK is well known for sharing seats and fast service for F&B. Nobody will eat and spend the whole morning slowly chatting at the table. So the queue move pretty fast too. We are done with our Breakfast around 1020am.
Australian dairy Company! Yes the eatery! |
I wasn't planning to have a crazy trip in Hong Kong because it was our once in a blue moon family trip and there are old and young so we really couldn't do much. Didn't want to say I enjoyed a lot because it was very much different from my travel trips but it was still consider relaxing short vacation while I break away from the reality.
